Quickstart
With this guide Starting from an empty workspace, you’ll end up with a working agent. Every single step is provided with a link where you can read more about the specific term. If the terminology sounds confusing, go through Core concepts first.
1. Create an agent from a template
- Open AI Agents from the sidebar and click New Agent.
- Enter an Agent name.
- Under Choose a template, select the one closest to your use case. Each template includes a short description of its intended behaviour. Select Custom for a blank starting point.
- Click Create. The agent opens directly to its detail view.
The template only sets a starting personality, so you can rewrite the prompt and first message later. See AI Agents for more on templates.
2. Add a knowledge base
Attach your own content so the agent answers from sources you control rather than generating responses without grounding.
- Open Knowledge from the sidebar and click New Collection.
- Inside the collection, create a New Article by uploading a PDF or entering a web page URL. Wait for indexing to complete.
- Return to your agent, open Configure → General, and use Select a knowledge base to attach the collection.
Full details are in Knowledge.
3. Enable or add a tool
Tools let agents act, not just respond.
- In the agent's Configure → Tools tab, toggle on a built-in System tool to enable it.
- To add custom capability, click Add tool and connect a webhook pointing to your own API.
See Tools and Webhooks to build reusable tools.
4. Deploy your agent
An agent must be deployed before it can be tested or used.
- Open the Actions menu in the agent header and select Deploy agent. Wait for the status to change to Live.
- For web: go to Deployment → Chat widget, configure the appearance and interaction mode, and copy the Embed code onto your page.
- For voice: go to Deployment → Phone and assign a telephone number. If you have not imported one yet, do so under Phone numbers first.
The full deploy flow is in Deploy an agent.
5. Test it
1\. From the agent header, click Test Agent.
2\. Interact with the agent in the side pane exactly as a user would.
3\. Close the pane when satisfied.
More on this in Configure an agent.
After your first real conversations, check the Dashboard & history to see metrics, top intents, the fallback report, and full transcripts.
